Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you give fixed bids for work?

If you want a bid I can provide that at my usual hourly rate. Remember though, a fixed bid is only valid until your specifications change. And they always do. And once your specifications change, the original bid becomes obsolete. Then what will we do? Start over with a new bid (which costs more money to prepare) for the new specifications? How many times can we afford to do that within your budget?

I find it less expensive to prepare a cost estimate appropriate to the size and scope of the project, then manage the inevitable changes so we can still achieve your most important requirements within your budget. Quick estimates and their revisions are less precise than bids but allow you to spend more of your money on the project and less on the bidding process.

  • How much do you charge?

Unfortunately, telling you my hourly rate now won't help you decide if I'm the right person to work with.

Instead, may I suggest that you find out if I have the skills, experience and abilities your job requires. Then, once you're satisfied I do, find out if I have the experience and integrity to manage your project well. If you find that I meet all those requirements, then you can be confident that what I charge you will be fair and that you'll get good value for what you invest.

And isn't that what you really wanted to know now?

Of course, we eventually will discuss my rates and how I bill for my work. But for now lets focus on whether or not I'm the right person for your project.
